Open letter to the Romanian Government and Ministry of European Funds

Open letter to the Romanian Government and Ministry of European Funds

Opportunities for international investments in Eastern Romania.

Dear Sirs,

We are an international technology company (from Denmark) willing to set-up a high-tech manufacturing facility in Eastern Romania. We believe it could be a strong asset for the Romanian society, and we have already established the needed local collaborations in Romania, to ensure a strong Romanian anchoring.

We have applied for (grants-based) funding in one of the very few/ maybe the only EU-funding scheme for innovation in Romania which was open to EU-based companies without a direct presence in Romania (when submitting the application) – POC PTI programme (Proiect Tehnologic Inovativ, aferent Acțiunii 1.2.1, apelurile POC/163/1/3 (Less Developed Regions și ITI Delta Dunării – http://www.poc.research.gov.ro/ro/articol/4334/despre-oi-cercetare-comunicare-rezultatele-finale-privind-selec-ia-proiectelor-propuse-spre-finan-are-pentru-ac-iunea-1-2-1-proiect-tehnologic-inovativ-apelurile-poc-163-1-3-i-poc-222-1-3).

Six months after the funding application was admitted for funding, the company has now been placed on a waiting list, after the initial programme budget has been reduced  –
http://www.poc.research.gov.ro/uploads/competitii/actiunea-1-2-1/proiect-tehnologic-inovativ/2020/rezultate/lista-finala-a-proiectelor-aflate-pe-lista-de-rezerva-ldr-less-developed-regions-exceptand-iti.pdf.

This happened after an extremely long competition calendar/ evaluation process (over 2 years since the call/ competition deadline):

  • Call/ Competition opened: November 2017;
  • Application submitted at the initial deadline: March 2018;
  • Competition extended deadline on: May 2018;
  • Evaluation results: December 2019
  • Evaluation update published by the Fund Operator/ List of beneficiaries and reservelist – May 2020.

We have seen multiple initiatives of the Romanian government to allocate funding to enterprises through various programmes, including extending programmes’ budgets to the waiting lists of some of the older funding schemes – https://www.fonduri-structurale.ro/stiri/24202/propunerile-executivului-de-relansare-economica-granturi-si-instrumente-financiare-pentru-imm-uri-companii-mari-fermieri

These initiatives don’t include, unfortunately, the funding programme where we are on the waiting list. It is disappointing to see this, especially since this is a programme that stimulates innovation on the Romanian market – a topic which seems to be key on the Government’s agenda.

We are not the only company on the waiting list of this funding programme, and we believe our thoughts are shared by many other companies on this waiting list.

On multiple occasions we have expressed our commitment for this project, which would involve a significant investment from our side on the Romanian market. We have initiated early stage engagement activities on the Romanian market, both on the production side and the development side, in order to ensure a strong and timely project effect in Romania. This proves our commitment to establish significant business and generate new workplaces on the Romanian market.

We are a European innovator in our field, based in Denmark, who is interested in setting up a highly innovative manufacturing unit in Romania in close collaboration with the Technical faculty/ IT department of the Iasi university in Romania – https://www.uaic.ro/. We consider moving our entire production to Romania and an important part of our entire development, but we cannot do this without the grant funding support.

Especially during these unprecedented times, with the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis to be felt by the business environment across the world for the foreseeable future, the government’s support for such projects is more important than ever. We believe funding budgets should be maintained or increased (not decreased) and funding support accelerated.

In this context, we kindly invite you to assess the opportunity of including this funding competition (and the companies on its waiting list) on the list of support measures (budget allocations and extensions) considered by the Romanian government for the upcoming period.

For any further details about our project and company, please do not hesitate to contact us.

http://www.poc.research.gov.ro/ro/articol/4334/despre-oi-cercetare-comunicare-rezultatele-finale-privind-selec-ia-proiectelor-propuse-spre-finan-are-pentru-ac-iunea-1-2-1-proiect-tehnologic-inovativ-apelurile-poc-163-1-3-i-poc-222-1-3 )

La șase luni de la primirea scrisorii de admitere a cererii de finanțare, compania a fost plasată pe o listă de așteptare, după ce bugetul inițial al programului a fost redus –
http://www.poc.research.gov.ro/uploads/competitii/actiunea-1-2-1/proiect-tehnologic-inovativ/2020/rezultate/lista-finala-a-proiectelor-aflate-pe-lista-de-rezerva-ldr-less-developed-regions-exceptand-iti.pdf.

Acest lucru s-a întâmplat după un calendar de competiție/ proces de evaluare extrem de lung (peste 2 ani de la termenul limită de depunere a aplicației:

  • Deschidere Apel noiembrie 2017;
  • Cerere depusă la termenul limita inițial: martie 2018;
  • Termenul prelungit al apelului: mai 2018;
  • Rezultate evaluare: decembrie 2019

Save energy without compromising the comfort

Tech Danish SDG

Now it will be all about comfort – sustainable comfort.

By establishing 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) the UN has set a strong global focus towards a more sustainable future.

The goals lasts until year 2030, but despite the limited time frame, they can be difficult to act upon. At ReMoni we have found 3 concrete ideas for you to minimize your environmental footprints without making compromises on comfort. To contribute you must neither sit at a cold office nor in a darker room. Instead, have a look at these 3 ideas for a more sustainable operation.

  • React on abnormal operation
    Goal #7

Building manufacturing and waste reduction are complex fields of work. Do you have the complete overview of the operation costs for your buildings? The better your overview becomes, the easier you can react on abnormal operation. By implementing ReMonis PowerMoniMain
you can monitor your energy consumption based on live data and view your data in our platform ReCalc or the Energy Management System, which you are currently using.

  • Gather your deliveries
    Goal #9

Save resources and money with bundled deliveries. By knowing that all your office deliveries are being distributed on for example Tuesdays and Thursdays only, you will of course happen to wait for your order an extra day or two. But on the other hand, you will be contributing to a lower CO2 emission every single week, all year around than if your deliveries had kept being delivered on a daily basis – as it unfortunately happens for most companies.

Taking climate action in such a concrete way provides you with the best conditions to boost your CSR image. Do not hesitate to inform your partners and customer how you are actively supporting a more sustainable consumption.

  • Let’s reuse
    Goal #11 & #12

On a small scale you can buy packaging, labelling and wrapping made from reused materials. On a bigger scale furniture and electronics can be found second hand – also for B2B companies.

When a company is closing, inventory such as desks and office chairs in very fine condition are put on sale for a reduced price. You can also find technical equipment such as keyboards and screens this way to save money and C02.

If you are from a company with a green mindset do not forget to check out the options for a secondhand deal. Reuse to gain economical savings and help minimizing the global overproduction.

Minimize the C02 footprint and optimize your economy:
Reduce energy waste – bundle deliveries – reuse.

Sustainable energy optimization.

By performing energy optimization ReMoni is supporting the Sustainable Development Goals number 7, 9, 11 and 12 regarding production, clean energy and innovation.

Which SDG’s – Sustainable Development Goals – is your company supporting and not at least how?

ReMonis & UNs 17 Sustainable Development Goals:

7: Sustainable Energy

9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure

11: Sustainable cities and communities

12: Responsible consumption and production

Save money on ventilation

spar penge på dyre ventilationsanløg

Can you reduce your ventilation costs by 50 % without lowering the comfort?

If so, you are not alone. In relation to ventilation systems we find one of the costliest mistakes. This stresses the importance of checking up on the Energy Management System frequently after services and repairs of minor defects.

We do need ventilation

Recently a Danish municipal institution managed to reduce its ventilation costs by 40 % by simply checking up on the ventilation performance. The error was tracked back to a non-intended resetting of the EMS-system after a standard service. If you are responsible of one or more buildings, it is essential to have a sufficient overview.

ReMonis design process of the IoT-sensors has been based on this acknowledgement to provide exactly that: A data-based overview with customized data sampling available, as frequently as every five minutes.

”After a defect we have had service on the EMS-system – I got the feeling that something was not operating as it should.”

– Facility Manager in a Danish Municipality up on an energy reduction of 40 %

Ventilation in buildings prevents mold, whereas it is necessary, and ensures a healthy physical working environment.

The importance of ventilation is rarely on topic, but nevertheless it is an essential function inside our buildings. Overall, the ventilation system is contributing to maintain a good indoor climate with a high air quality by constantly venting in fresh air while venting out the CO2.

Do not compromise the comfort to achieve energy savings

Stay in control

In the cloud platform ReCalc you can log in to get an overview of  your buildings current and historical ventilation consumption. Access your consumption data in a detailed review and detect changes easily.

Thus, you can distinguish changes from the usual operation pattern and act on facts. Stay in control of your selected units and detect fluctuations when they appear with the sensor PowerMoniSpot clamped onto the cable with cable ties.

Utilize the customized data sampling to optimize your manufacturing.

Overview across units and buildings

If you are a Facility Manager or similar PowerMoniMain helps you gain overview across units and buildings. With the power sensor PowerMoniMain or PowerMoniSpot it does not become much easier:

You can find errors in the EMS-system on an on-going basis. Besides, you can localize units, that could easily operate on a lower level during for example nights and weekends, where the production activity is at its lowest.

AI and cloud technology combined in an innovative, user-friendly solution

ReCalc will let you know

Don’t worry if your building’s ventilation system is mismatching the settings of your EMS-system – ReCalc will let you know.

ReCalc provides you with a constantly updated data review and an always updated overview. Based on this, you can localize challenges and defects in an early. By managing them in time you avoid costly surprises.

Minimize your downtime

Minimize downtime

Optimal manufacturing requires an overview – even across services

Most services are planned according to a certain time interval  This approach is quite common, even though different units do not operate equally and therefore do not show signs of wear and tear at the same time. As a result, the unit’s service interval can vary a lot which increases the importance of an overview to prevent an unwanted break down.

If you, as a professional, are employed in the production area, you must have experienced how impossible it can seem to gain an overview across the different units and get it based on a frequent data sampling going on 24/7.

A good overview is the best way to avoid a production stop.

An overview of great value

The production units do rarely need service at the same time. For this reason, it would be essential only to perform service on the units when it is needed. Preventing wear by performing maintenance is of great value, since it prevents units from breaking down, which leaves the employees unable to do their job.

If you for example only perform services after each 6000 operation hours there is a significant risk to miss it, if a unit should show signs of wear between two services and thereby need for additional maintenance.

Tip: Find a shortcut to ReCalc in the top right corner of ReMonis website.

An overview across services

Lack of overview is expensive and so is unnecessary service.

For this reason, ReMoni is launching the power sensor PowerMoniMain, which provides you with an overview of energy consumption regardless services. Such a detailed overview is highly suitable for you as a Facility Manager where the everyday tend to be busy. With this solution you can effectively act on facts as soon as a  certain action is needed.

Utilize the capacity

You can follow the consumption of your production by following measurements from PowerMoniMain sampled every two minutes. If units which should have been closed down nights and weekends are still operating, you can rapidly detect and manage it. We call it act on facts.

On a longer term you will experience a raise in the consumption of some units as they get more and more worn out over time. After a certain number of operation hours, the units performance will be affected. You get nothing out of it – beside an increased electricity bill.

PowerMoniMain provides data sampling as frequently as every two minutes so you can take action.

Avoid production stop

This solution makes it easy for you to spend your time as effectively as possible. Besides, this enables you to follow the operation development closely over time and exclusively summon technicians when you know that it is actually needed.

The data reading is easy and simple and in ReCalc – or ReCalc MoniTor – you have the option to set alarms. By doing this, you can gain a valuable overview in your prefered cloud platform. This makes it easy for you to take action and likely to save large amounts on money on production stop and downtime in the production.

Get an improved consumption overview with ReCalc or ReCalc MoniTor

District Heating

In its shortest version ReCalc is a data presentation

In the extended version it is an IoT-based visual data presentation platform and a part of ReMonis end-to-end solution – regardless the sensor type.

In ReCalc you can access all data sampled by your sensor(s) and adjust the measurement rate and which changes should trigger an alarm. ReMonis sensors report data in real time to help you get aware of your invisible consumption. With ReCalc you have influence on the data sampling rate, which enables you to sample data based on your needs.

Get started with ReCalc

When receiving our solution, you get one or more sensors and a gateway. Clamp on the user-friendly sensor(s) on the outside of the cable or pipe and connect the wireless gateway to a power supply and to the internet.

On the outside of your new gateway there is an ID-number which you will need to log in at ReCalc.

Setting up ReCalc is simple and gives you maximum control of your energy monitoring

First time you access your data you need to create the sensor unit by its ID-number. If you need assistance, you can find an explanation with an indicative screen dump here. When your sensors have been created you can log in and get started.

Tip: Find a shortcut to ReCalc in the top right corner of ReMonis website

How to use ReCalc

ReCalc is an online platform for data presentation. To start using it you must create a login to recalc.remoni.com, where you can access data and adjust the frequency of the samplings. This gives you maximum control of your energy monitoring in an area where influence on data sampling is rather unusual. By using ReCalc it becomes easy to react based on the following:

  • Data monitoring

  • Graphical data presentation in ReCalc

  • User settings for alarms and warnings

  • User settings for ReMonis different sensors

  • ReCalc can easily be connected to the extension ReCalc MoniTor

You can use ReCalc on computer, tablet and smartphone

When logged in you can create multiple users and accounts to give different employees access to different data sets. One of ReCalcs strengths is the connection between advanced data sampling and the simple data presentation. Thanks to this, the consumption pattern gets easy to analyze, understand and not at least to act upon.

Customized to your needs

Sometimes a detailed overview is of great value. If your company also works better based on insights, you should consider the similar EMS-system ReCalc MoniTor, which provide you with an extended graphical overview.

Get an overview of the total and specific consumption: By looking into for example the power consumption you can easily analyze and compare the consumption shares used for lighting and ventilation – just to name a few.

You can compare ReCalc and ReCalc MoniTor on the pictures in this article and find more about ReCalc MoniTor’s extended data presentation here.

Understand ReMonis solution

Spar på ressourcerne med energimåling med PowerMoniMain

Need for a detailed insight

A day in 2013 Bo Eskerod Madsen got an idea. He wanted to know the exact consumption and performance for each unit, 24/7. At this time, no solution could meet that exact need, and therefore Bo developed a new measurement concept called ReMoni.

The company’s DNA consist of local data sampling which is send to the cloud, where the users can access their consumption – measured over time and specifically for the single installations. What is in it for you, can best be explained with one of the sensors as an example.

Understand the solution, with PowerMoniMain as an example in this article.

If consumption is the challenge, PowerMoniMain is the solution.

Non-specific consumption

Do you recognize the challenge with only non-specific consumption measurements?

Or do you know for sure that none of your operating costs are rising year after year? In many companies the energy account gets approved without anyone lifting an eyebrow, as long as it is within a margin of the account from last year. As a result, the development is rarely being checked up upon, which provides a great potential for raising billls – and large savings.

PowerMoniMain is not just a sensor product but a part of the coherent solution. In comparison with other market alternatives it is easy to install and inexpensive to acquire – and the ROI is typically only weeks. In other words, PowerMoniMain is a user friendly and effective energy meter that can help you get a detailed overview of your consumption.

It enables you to check up on your consumption when you have got time for it. With this complex cloud solution, you can maintain the overview across your electrical installations with detailed monitoring presented in a user-friendly view. Acting on facts have never been easier!

Get an overview of the complexity in your installations by screening specific measurements.

With 15 channels you can monitor up to 15 units in one comprehensive overview.

At ReMoni we have spent years on developing the concept behind PowerMoniMain.

This meter has been created based on market insights and experience with specific production facility needs. PowerMoniMain stands out from the market alternatives by offering 15 channels and clamp on-installation. Overall, it has been recognized for its great potential for savings on consumption. As an ”add on” to your cost savings you are actively supporting a sustainable environment. It’s a win-win.

Solving a problem

When you receive your PowerMoniMain you should not clamp it onto the cables like a PowerMoniSpot, but install it into the buildings switch board.

We have solved the typical problem with limited space in the main switch board when designing the PowerMoniMain.

It fits the switch boards by using CT-clamps mounted onto each single phase. From here data is send to ReMoni’s gateway and on to ReMoni’s cloud platform ReCalc. In ReCalc you can access your power consumption data presented in a detailed dashboard.

The easy choice

In short PowerMoniMain makes it easy to examine the consumption footprint.

If you need to know both power and voltage you can easily use PowerMoniMain with banana plugs with magnetic probes for the connectivity. Simply click one onto each phase terminal in the 3 phases of the switch board to receive monitoring data with a time interval of 2 seconds.

If your installations have a significant data consumption you can exchange the CT-clamps with some suitable for higher current-levels.

PowerMoniMain can be adjusted to different CT-clamps and manage op to 1200 ampere. Get an overview of the complexity in the electrical installations with quick screenings on different installations in your production. Screening measurements from PowerMoniMain provides detailed insights regarding electrical parameters such as power consumption and voltage variation.

If you would like to learn more, please find our presentation of ReCalc here.

The good choice

As mentioned in the introduction, ReMoni was invented thanks to Bo Eskerod Madsen’s wish for insight in his consumption and his his desire to spend the resources in the most sustainable way.

After the first few years in business we are still getting confirmed in what we do – and that a good consumption overview is a good first step towards a more sustainable operation.

Unilever’s waste minimized with PowerMoniMain

Unilever

New sensor technology finds errors and optimize the production at Unilever

In short time Energy Consultant and CEO of AX Energi, Mr. Peter Bruun has managed to optimize the performance on parts of the installations at Unilever’s production by implementing a new multi sensor. The sensor is called PowerMoniMain and has been developed by the GreenTech company ReMoni.

The sensor provides real-time data, electricity metering, operations information and gives you an overview of the current and historical energy consumption. PowerMoniMain enables you to monitor various technical installations and units at the same time – all day and all night.

Improve operational efficiency

As most Energy Consultants, Peter Bruun has been using a lot of time trying to detect the invisible power consumption by localizing the resource wasting installations. He purchased a PowerMoniMain, which made it possible for him to optimize parts of the production at Unilever in record time.

”One of the benefits with PowerMoniMain is, that you get data on the performance and consumption of various units at the same time,” Peter Bruun says.

He continues: ”With continuing data for various installations I have got an insight, which I haven’t got earlier – this makes it easy for me, since the data patterns rapidly point out the problematic units.”

Monitor up to 15 technical installations

A PowerMoniMain can monitor power consumption on up to 15 technical installations at the same time. According to Peter the new, concrete insights in the current and historical consumption makes it possible to optimize the facility. For instance, it becomes easy to find installations that are using power during night even though the production has been shut down.

Peter Bruun likes to stay updated on new technology. For this reason, he immediately bought a PowerMoniMain when it was launched. From then it did not take long before it was installed at Unilever – a company focusing on savings and on reducing power consumption and waste.

Peters Bruun’s first project at Unilever revealed a yearly energy saving of DKK 86,000 – equivalent to EUR 11,600 – within the first 10 days.

Data appeared in ReMonis cloud-platform ReCalc shortly after sensor and gateway had been installed. From there it did not take many hours before he had found the problematic installations. Based on time and consumption it turned out that the compressor and some heating elements were consuming a lot of power outside of production hours.

Get an operation pattern for all kinds of electrical motors

No matter which power consumption or which electrical installations you would like to monitor over time, you can use a PowerMoniMain.

You get an operation pattern and power monitoring in switch boards and for all types of electrical motors such as compressors, pumps, ventilation systems, production equipment, CNC-machines and much more. In addition, PowerMoniMain can be used for monitoring the power consumption of charging stations or the actual power production of solar panels.

ReMonis PowerMoniMain provides data about the actual number of operation hours of the machines so that maintenance and service can be planned based on real data. With a high and continuing data sampling rate you get valuable data for an Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) analysis of your production equipment.

”Luckily it is clamp-on, on the outside of the cables and a PowerMoniMain does not fill up space in the switch board,” Peter says: ”Well, actually the sensor can also stay in the switch board, so that we stay updated on the power consumption of this product line.”

Peter confirms that it is easy to install a PowerMoniMain and that it takes significantly shorter time to get running than other equipment for power consumption.

Installed in the switch board

Practically a PowerMoniMain is installed in a switch board. From here the ReMoni gateway is sending data wirelessly to the cloud-platform ReCalc – and that is how simple it is.

PowerMoniMain can meter and monitor various installations at the same time and be used for both screening purposes and permanent power metering.

Reducing energy waste in retail chains requires flexibility

Research from the University of Southern Denmark reveals hidden waste

The research shows that flexible and accurate monitoring of light, ventilation, refrigeration and freezers in retail chains reveals hidden resource waste.

When it comes to optimizing resource consumption, there is room for improvement in the retail industry. This can be detected by using ReMoni sensors that measure the consumption profile in technical installations.

“We move the wireless sensors from equipment to equipment and measure consumption directly on the outside of the cables,” says Professor of Center for Energy Informatics at the Southern University of Denmark, Mikkel Baun Kjærgaard about the FlexRestore research project supported by EUDP.

“In this way, we get a quick and concrete response to how the consumption profile looks like. This procedure reveals energy waste and delivers important data. The project took us less than a day, and the data speak for itself. For example we see the influence of different ways to fill up products, which can lead to energy waste,” Mikkel Baun Kjærgaard says.

The future is flexible

The futures way of producing power is becoming more flexible in terms of resources like solar and wind energy. That is why the future monitoring of resources must be more flexible and detailed too, the professor explains. This is where the ReMoni sensors have an important say.

Mikkel Baun Kjærgaard concludes:

“The sensors are wireless and it makes our work easy because they are so flexible. They stand out because they are so easy to work with.”

Project in a daycare center reveals huge resource saving potential

There is a great amount of money to be saved in public buildings, businesses, and institutions

Something, the use of ReMoni’s wireless IoT sensors demonstrates in a project, ran by Danish Energy Management, the Technical University of Denmark and Aarhus University.

Fact-based decisions are in high demand when it comes to energy optimization in private as well as public companies and institutions. This is something Jakob Nørby, who works as a Market Manager for energy innovation at DEM (Danish Energy Management) explains:

“We want our customers’ decisions to become more fact-based than the case is today. I believe that it will lead to more and more robust cases for energy optimizations/renovations.”

The measurements in the daycare center clearly show need for improvement

Energy project in a local daycare center

As part of the project called E-snap, supported by the Danish Energy Agency, a handful ReMoni clamp-on IoT sensors was installed in a local daycare center in Aarhus.

The purpose was to recalculate the saving potential of, among other things, the heating system in the building. The sensors measured certain temperatures on the district heating pipes, which on the surface otherwise worked as they should. However, after the sensors were set up, the measurements showed that the heating system did not work properly:

“Our needs typically arise when we suspect that technical plants do not perform optimally and thereby have a huge energy loss. This suspicion can be confirmed by means of for example IoT sensors,” Jakob Nørby explains.

Monitoring pays off

Jakob Nørby says that the starting point for the project was focused on the ventilation – which

should only run in the opening hours. But this also turned out not to be the case. After the sensors were set up, the return of investments (ROI) had doubled.

“We knew there were some errors in the technical installations. Sometimes it just does not work as expected. But we did not know that the case was as strong as it actually turned out to be,” Jakob Nørby explains, while emphasizing that he is an impartial advisor, and that there might have been other sensors than ReMonis that could be used in the project.

However, when the choice fell on ReMoni, it was because of the complete solution. Everything works together from the start and when the sensors are mounted on the outside of the cables, everything else runs automatically.

Cost-effective energy overview

Jakob Nørby sees great possibilities in ReMoni’s solution.

“In fact, there’s not a building we cannot find savings in. Office buildings, public institutions, and factories – just to name a few. We can quickly and easily get an overview of the energy situation. And at a much lower price than we have seen in the market so far.”
